2014 Social Events

18th Jan - Walkabout around Cullompton, visiting their seven pubs/hotels. When we visited The Pony and Trap they were presented with a certificate for the achievement of being the branch Winter Pub of the Season. Twelve members came on this event at various times. For details on this please click

On the way back to Exeter we also visited Bradninch and visited the two pubs in the village.

1st Feb - Walkabout around Taunton and though only three members came on this event it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. There had been several changes since our last visit two years ago and we all agreed it was well worth a visit.

29th March - A group of CAMRA members attended the small but well worth visiting Yeofest Beer Festival, Yeoford.

Yeoford is a small village just outside Crediton and originally the locals held the festival to raise money for a new village hall. Well after a succession of festivals, other fund raising events and a lottery grant a new

village hall has been built.

The new hall hosted this years festival which had a bit of light music and some fine 16 real ales and 2 real ciders. Apparently they are keeping the festivals going every year as they need new chairs. Well any excuse will do me.

A good time was had by all and at one stage two of the girls risked cutting Martyns hair. They gave up after losing the scissors in the mop.

May 10th - The branch celebrated Mild Month of May by visiting six pubs in Exeter that were know to be having various Milds on. This year two new pubs were visited namely The Beer Cellar and The Fat Pig. The other four were as in previous years The Chevalier, Georges Meeting House, The Oddfellows and The Old Firehouse. In all the pubs we found a total of nineteen Milds available on the hand pumps with a good range from local breweries and quite a few from further afield. The favourite for the day seemed to be Marthas Mild 5.3ABV. This event was enjoyed by around 3o members who joined the trail at various stages.

May 17th -  The Branch did a Wakabout around Exmouth. We usually do this once a year and on this occasion visited a total of eight pubs starting at The Country House Inn and Holly Tree in Wythicombe then progressing to the town centre to The Powder Momkey, The First and Last and The Bicton Inn. We then progressed to the sea front to The Grove and The Beach before retracing our steps back into town to The Grapevine where the walkabout finished. This was another well attended event with about 16 members dropping in and out.
